COVID 19 Plasma Donation in Travis County and Central Texas
Convalescent plasma donations made at We Are Blood have been used to treat COVID-19 patients in our community at Central Texas hospitals. Throughout the pandemic, We Are Blood has collected convalescent plasma from individuals who qualify based on COVID-19 antibody test results from two separate tests performed on every whole blood and platelet donation made by July 31, 2021.
We Are Blood provided COVID-19 antibody testing will conclude on July 31, 2021. Donations made after July 31, 2021 will not be tested for COVID-19 antibodies.
We Are Blood performs SARS CoV-2 antibody testing on all donors who successfully donations made before August 1, 2021, using two different tests authorized by the FDA to qualify the donor and ensure the plasma meets EUA specifications. A reactive result on both antibody tests and a high antibody titer test result is required to qualify for convalescent plasma donation. A negative initial screening test will not undergo additional testing and the donor will not be qualified for convalescent plasma donation.
