Mobile blood drives are a safe and convenient way to protect the community’s blood supply. And donations collected at mobile blood drives make up nearly 50% of our annual local blood supply! As a result, our mobile drive hosts and the donations they inspire are instrumental in supporting the transfusion needs of patients across Central Texas.
The Road to Mobile Success
- Consider your space. Our decked out mobile buses bring a lot of community attention when parked outside your business, church, school, or more! This can be a beneficial way to promote your mobile blood drive and engage with your neighbors. For some groups, however, a mobile bus might not be the best fit for your space. In some cases, drive hosts elect to host their blood drive indoors, setting up a travelling donor center inside an available room. When you sign up to host a blood drive, your We Are Blood account manager will help you determine what might work best for your space.
- Think about your people. We encourage potential drive hosts to feel confident that they can inspire at least 22 people to sign up for their blood drive. Having an engaged group allows us to meet our collection goals while also accounting for routine deferrals and cancellations. If you are concerned about your ability to recruit, some hosts will partner with neighboring businesses or another local organization to expand their reach.
- Save the date. To provide ample support to your drive and ensure we’re booking drives meeting the community needs, we often book blood drives a few months in advance. When working with your We Are Blood account manager to set your date, consider the days of the week or periods during a month that work well for your group. In some cases, a We Are Blood mobile drive can be a great addition to another event like a health fair or community festival. So open that calendar and find a date that works for you!
- Spread the word. Tell your friends, family, colleagues, patrons, and community about the upcoming drive. Because blood drives are a great opportunity to further your connections within your community, consider reaching out to nearby groups and businesses to post a flyer or share about your blood drive on their social media.
