Supporting Our Furry Friends and Neighbors in Need
With significant growth throughout Central Texas in recent years, along with new hospitals and added healthcare services, the need for blood transfusions and other medical procedures has skyrocketed making blood and platelet donations ever more important. The increased population also impacts food demands and animal needs.
So, for the month of June, We Are Blood is partnering with two other local nonprofits whose missions align with ours for creating a healthy community. That’s right! Between June 1-30, We Are Blood is making $5 donations to either the Central Texas Food Bank or Austin Humane Society on behalf of each blood or platelet donor that comes through our doors.
Beyond Raising Awareness
This campaign is dedicated to providing our Central Texas hospitals with life-saving blood transfusion supplies, while alleviating hunger locally and transforming the lives of vulnerable cats and dogs.
“We’re excited to work with We Are Blood on this partnership,” said Mark Jackson, Chief Development Officer of the Central Texas Food Bank. “Joining forces to help meet two of the community’s crucial needs—blood and food—is a great example of how Austin nonprofits can work together. Hunger is a significant issue in Central Texas, where 1 in 5 children can’t be sure where their next meal will come from. So, we hope that everyone who donates blood will also donate to the Food Bank!”
Erin Jolly, the Director of Education and Events at Austin Human Society adds, “We Are Blood has been a wonderful supporter of the Austin Humane Society and our mission. Their generosity has raised much needed funds for our day-to-day operations here at the shelter. Thank you to We Are Blood for supporting all our furry friends and the people who love them. Community partnerships like these are what make Austin such a special place, and we look forward to the Giving Double Blood drive again this June.”
