Mandi Seiler’s life changed four years ago, on May 24, 2022. That day, Seiler’s niece McKenna was one of the 19 students and two teachers who lost their lives at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. Since that tragedy, giving blood is one of the ways Seiler honors McKenna’s memory.
“We have spent the past 4 years doing everything we can to make sure she’s remembered.”
In sitting down with We Are Blood, Seiler shares details about her outgoing niece, remembering her loving and bright personality and how she always wanted to be part of the action. McKenna loved having her picture taken and posing with Snapchat filters.
Giving blood has helped Seiler cope with the tragedy of the Robb Elementary School shooting. It has become a way to process that grief while giving back and helping the community.
Regular Donations Protect the Community Blood Supply.
Seiler shares why she feels it’s important to be on a regular schedule for donating blood or blood products. She reflects, “If we all wait until something goes wrong, then we can’t get out of the hole we’re in.”
Donating blood following an emergency event is a great way to help replenish the blood supply. But when minutes count, emergency service providers rely on units that are on hand and have already been tested for safe transfusion.
Seiler encourages others to be on a regular donation schedule, “It’s important to be on a regular schedule of donating blood and blood products because we want to be in a position to support our community no matter what’s going on.”
