At Girl Scouts of Central Texas, the mission is clear: to build girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place. With approximately 8,500 members in the greater Austin area, including 950 girls who participate in community programs supported by We Are Blood, Girl Scouts is a cornerstone of community development and youth empowerment.

Building Life Skills for a Better Future

Kursten Mitchell, the Chief Marketing and Communications Officer at Girl Scouts of Central Texas, explains that the organization’s goal is to equip girls with essential life skills. The Girl Scouts program offers a broad range of opportunities, from STEM education – such as robotics and science experiments – to outdoor activities like camping, hiking, and canoeing. It also emphasizes entrepreneurship through the iconic Girl Scout Cookie Program, and life skills training including CPR, financial literacy, and more.

“The mission is not only to help girls grow but to provide them with the skills they need to thrive, whether it’s in school, at home, or later in their careers,” Kursten explains. This aligns with their vision of creating girls who are not just confident in their abilities but also ready to take on the world.

A Shared Commitment to Central Texas

Both Girl Scouts of Central Texas and We Are Blood are united by a shared commitment to building a thriving, healthy community in the greater Austin area. While We Are Blood focuses on saving lives, Girl Scouts of Central Texas focuses on empowering the next generation of community leaders. Kursten notes, “Together, we’re really here to build a thriving greater Austin area.”

The strength of the community is at the heart of both organizations’ work. For Kursten and the Girl Scouts, being involved in local efforts that directly impact Central Texas is a source of pride. “I think it feels amazing to be involved in saving the lives of local patients,”she says, underscoring the importance of the collaboration.

Proud to Make a Difference

Being part of such a vital mission is a meaningful experience for Kursten and everyone at Girl Scouts of Central Texas. And it’s rooted in knowing that the strength of their community is what truly makes a difference – it’s a feeling that resonates deeply with We Are Blood as well.

Both Girl Scouts and We Are Blood are dedicated to enhancing the lives of those in Central Texas, working in tandem to build a future where everyone is empowered and supported. Together, our work ensures that the greater Austin area remains strong, resilient, and filled with potential.
