Living in Central Texas you’ve likely seen We Are Blood’s giant, brightly colored buses around town, hosting blood drives at businesses, schools, churches, or just passing down the street. As a vital piece of We Are Blood’s mission, these buses save lives… and we need a new one.
So how does a bus save a life? For Camryn, a young Pflugerville girl diagnosed with leukemia, the answer is simple. When Camryn was diagnosed a rare blood cancer that requires blood and platelet transfusions multiple times a week, her parents reached out to We Are Blood to organize a mobile blood drive. Their friends and neighbors also joined in to spread the word, naming the blood drive Camryn’s Relentless Battle in her honor. The response was overwhelming with 120 blood donations collected!
As you probably know, our Central Texas community is growing, but you may not know that 50% of its blood supply comes from mobile drives using buses just like the one held for Camryn. Buses make mobile blood donation not only more convenient to where many live and work, but easier for Central Texans to donate blood regularly.
Camryn’s mother Kimberly shared why that’s important: “We often think about blood donation being needed just after tragic accidents. But taking Camryn in three times a week for transfusions and seeing the other patients and families made us realize how so many people rely upon blood donations on a regular basis and more than just once or twice a year.”
Our goal is to raise the funds necessary to add one new bus to our fleet, and we are asking our community to make a special gift this holiday season to help make it possible! Would you be able to make a donation of $25, $50, or $100 to help us meet our goal!If you contribute before the end of the year, your gift will be DOUBLED in value by a generous matching grant of $10,000 from the Sherlock Charitable Foundation. Inspiring and supporting blood donation is personal for the Sherlock Charitable Foundation and they have made this grant to help others and honor the memory of a loved one, Pati Sherlock who successfully fought cancer as a child with the help of blood transfusion.
Please respond if you are able. Any amount will help us accomplish this goal and continue to support families just like Camryn’s in Central Texas. You can make a donation online (by clicking the donate link below) or by mailing a check made out to We Are Blood to 4300 N. Lamar Blvd. Austin, TX 7875.
We are so thankful for your friendship and support and for being a part of the We Are Blood family.
