“We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.” — Winston Churchill

Whether they are taking care of blood donors in our canteen, transporting lifesaving blood, or providing education about the importance of blood donation, We Are Blood volunteers are giving back to our community, supporting our mission to provide and protect the community blood supply, and making a life by what they give — each and every day.  In 2024 alone, 350 volunteers provided over 11,000 hours of service to We Are Blood.

Everywhere you look you’ll find a volunteer hard at work!

In the canteen, volunteers greet donors, answer questions about blood donation, serve refreshments, and are always alert to any signs or symptoms of an adverse reaction.

Last year, canteen hosts at our North Lamar, Cedar Park, and South Austin Donor Centers provided 5,761 hours of service!

Wherever blood is being drawn at our local donor centers or one of the many blood drives across the ten-county area of Central Texas, transportation volunteers perform scheduled pickups of blood components, delivering them to the laboratory at our Lamar location for processing and testing.

In 2023, transportation volunteers provided over 3,100 hours of service. That’s a lot of mileage!

At We Are Blood locations, office volunteers and interns work hard behind-the-scenes assisting our many administrative departments: helping with preparing marketing and promotional materials, prepping for special events, conducting research for departmental projects, filing and scanning documentation, as well as a host of other clerical tasks.

Volunteers and interns provided over 1,400 hours of service last year alone.

Volunteers also assist in the community, supporting special events, staffing donor recruitment tables and serving as canteen hosts at blood drives, and helping to spread the word about the importance of blood donation to businesses and organizations across Central Texas.

In 2023, volunteers gave over 500 hours of service to provide outstanding community outreach and blood drive support!

Giving the Gift of Time

Volunteers give something that they can never get back – the gift of time. Deepfelt thanks to all our We Are Blood volunteers for all that you do for our organization and the Central Texas community at large.
